Rodelinda, 2017, Sebastian Nevols

Directed by Richard Jones, this was the first revival of his acclaimed staging of Rodelinda, which sets Handel’s bitter political drama in Fascist Italy. 
A dramatic tale of power, anguish and love it is acknowledged as one of Handel’s greatest operas. When Grimoaldo takes Bertarido’s throne, Bertarido flees abroad, leaving behind his grieving wife Rodelinda. The usurper tries to force Rodelinda to love him, but when the exiled king returns in disguise, everyone is put to the test.
This 2017 production was conducted by Baroque-specialist Christian Curnyn.
