Satyagraha, 2018, Eric Standley

Philip Glass’s mesmeric masterpiece has become an icon of contemporary opera. Satyagraha, a Sanskrit word meaning ‘truth force’, looks at Mahatma Gandhi’s early years in South Africa and his development of non-violent protests as a political tool.
Phelim McDermott's highly-acclaimed production was first staged by ENO in 2007. For this revival, McDermott reunited with Glass specialist and frequent collaborator, the conductor Karen Kamensek.
