Akhnaten, 2016, Marc Adamus

Akhnaten was first performed in the UK in 1985 by ENO at the London Coliseum. In 2016, this new production saw the first London performances of Philip Glass’s opera in almost 30 years. Exploring the life and religious convictions of the Egyptian pharaoh, it forms the last of Glass’s trilogy of ‘portrait’ operas in which he explores the lives of figures in the fields of science (Einstein), politics (Gandhi) and religion (Akhnaten).
This Olivier Award-winning production was directed by Phelim McDermott and conducted by Karen Kamensek.
