    Description
Madam Butterfly  is one of opera’s most enduring tales of unrequited love. Puccini’s poignant score follows the tragic tale of Cio Cio San, a young Japanese girl who falls in love with American naval officer Pinkerton, with devastating consequences. Since 2005 the ENO has wowed audiences with Anthony Minghella’s groundbreaking and Olivier award-winning production. Wide-angle stripped back sets and the use of space and light plays with Japanese theatre techniques,  while bunraku puppetry allows Butterfly and Pinkerton's child Sorrow, to be brought ot life by three actors in an unforgettable performance.
